Xiwang Village is situated in Shanxi province, China, with a population of approximately 300 residents. The village has recently surpassed the poverty line thanks to recent initiatives that promote the local production and sale of apples, wheat, and other suitable agricultural products. However, both economic sustainability and population retention have become primary concerns due to an aging population and the emigration of younger residents to urban areas.
Commissioned by Xiwang Village, with collaboration with Xiaoyan art institute and Sunshine Art Education, we have designed the Xiwang Village Community Center. Additionally, we have developed an overall economic proposal that focuses on addressing the branding, product design, and logistics aspects of creating and promoting locally produced goods.
The architecture of the Community Center is intentionally designed to be versatile. The interior features contours and scattered columns which emphasizes the discretized spatial quality that guide visitors in making intuitive choices regarding space utilization.
When larger events occur, crowd decision processes naturally dictate specific areas for various activities. This flexibility anticipates the Community Center's ability to accommodate a wide range of programs, serving as an event hosting venue, a lounge for villagers to play cards, education center, and a logistical center for packaging and transporting local products.
